Real Estate Marketing – Getting Started With Facebook

By Jason Massengale

So you’ve heard everyone talking about Facebook and decided it’s time to set up an account. But before you do, here are a few points to keep in mind:

  1. Facebook is a unique website – it’s not your typical social network
  2. Facebook is a place for you to connect with your “real-life” friends more than anything else.
  3. Photos play a significant role in the Facebook experience.
  4. Facebook is not the place to jump up and down waving your hands (like Donkey on the Shrek DVD intro) trying to get new business.
    • If you try it, you’ll quickly lose Facebook friends and you’ll lose the ability to really connect with them to build stronger relationships.

If you want to use Facebook as a real estate marketing tool, it’s a great resource but you need to be smart about it. Focus your Facebook real estate marketing on 2 areas:

  1. A Facebook page
  2. Adding photos (of your listings and clients)

Here’s what you can expect when you get started:

  1. Register
  2. Confirm email
  3. Find friends
  4. Find classmates
  5. Find co-workers
  6. Join a regional network
  7. Edit profile
  8. Add contact info
  9. Add personal info
  10. Add education info
  11. Add work info (including a link to your website)
  12. Add a profile picture

While you’re going through the process, remember this – Facebook is not a place for strangers. Real people that you know in real life will find you there so be real with your profile.
